Adam Thoroughgood House
1636 Parish Road Virginia Beach, VA 23455
(757) 460-7588

Adam Thorough good arrived in Virginia in 1621 as an indentured servant and in 1636 was granted a land parcel. It was thought the house dates circa 1680 and was probably built by one of his grandsons, although recent archaeology suggests it may have been built as late as 1720 (Davis, Marc. "For one man, house's age is much more than just a number".

The house is one of the oldest houses from early Colonial period and provides insight into the kind of lifestyle lived by the gentry in Princess Anne County.

Restored in 1957, today it is a museum and is open to the public.

The house is owned by the City of Virginia Beach, which acquired it in 2003.

For more information, hours and special programs call (757) 460-7588 or the Francis Land House at 757-385-5100

First Landing State Park
2500 Shore Drive Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451
(757) 412-2300

Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, First Landing State Park is located by the Chesapeake Bay. The park, which is Virginia’s most visited state park, is nestled in Virginia Beach. First Landing offers boating, swimming, nature and history programs, hiking, biking, picnicking, a boat launch, cabins and 20 miles of trails on 2,888 acres. It also has campsites with water and electric hook-ups and nearby access to restrooms and showers.

The park's name was changed in 1997 from Seashore State Park to First Landing State Park to reflect its heritage as the first place where members of the Virginia Company landed. They went on to settle Jamestown.

FISHING, BOATING: Fishing and crabbing are popular from the Narrows located between Broad Bay and Linkhorn Bay. A valid Virginia saltwater fishing license is required. Annual parking-launching passports are available by calling 1-800-933-PARK.
Boating: Motorboats and other small craft may be launched from the Narrows boat ramp located at the 64th Street extension in the park’s southern area. Facilities include the use of launching ramps, parking for cars and boat trailers and restrooms. No swimming in the Narrows or at boat launch.

Canoes and kayaks are not available for rent within the park but can be rented from outfitters nearby in Virginia Beach.
NATURE, HISTORY PROGRAMS: The park offers many various self-guided and guided programs that cover crabbing, junior rangers, beach walks, nature hikes and structured environmental education programs. Large clubs, school groups and community organizations can request specific historical, cultural and environmental programming related to their educational goals. The park participates in Virginia's State Parks: Your Backyard Classrooms, a 40-activity curriculum guide used by K- 12 teachers and home-school coordinators. Call the park for more detail.

The area's biggest paddle sports event of the year, PaddleFest, takes place at First Landing in mid-September. There's something for both newcomers and pros alike at this hands-on event. Associated parking and try-out fees support the park.

The Mission of the A.R.E. is to help people transform their lives for the better, through research, education, and application of core concepts found in the Edgar Cayce readings and kindred materials that seek to manifest the love of God and all people and promote the purposefulness of life, the oneness of God, the spiritual nature of humankind, and the connection of body, mind, and spirit.

A.R.E. offers membership benefits and services that include a quarterly body-mind-spirit member magazine, Venture Inward; a member newsletter covering the topics of ancient mysteries, personal spirituality, and holistic health; and access to the entire set of readings in an exclusive online database.

A.R.E.’s publishing arm, A.R.E. Press, began publishing books in 1931, and has since branched out into DVDs, CDs, ebooks, and digital media. In 2009, the organization launched a second imprint, 4th Dimension Press, in order to offer additional like-minded materials. Individuals can purchase A.R.E.
